From mediocre to unreliable
We have been trying to build a communication environment around lync/Skype or whatever Microsoft tries to call it next. It has been challenging.
Lync was bulky, finicky, minimally adaptable to the user and not intuitive. Still, it met minimum reliability expectations to allow it to be usable.
The whole thing fell apart with the change to Skype for Business. It is good to change the interface and streamline functionality but the piece of software has to work.
Calls are dropped, audio quality is poor, performance reliability is below acceptable levels and the interface, while redesigned, is still alien and non-intuitive.
The result is that we started with an app that we could, with difficulty, build a communication strategy around and moved to an app that made us drop the whole thing in favour of older more reliable technology.
That is still not the biggest problem. The real issue is that our fear of loss of reliability every time Microsoft decides to rebrand this has now stopped us from trying. What is the point of putting all this effort into something that will fall apart once a new forced update comes along?
